Unimat
is a black, rubber safety matting, suitable for
play areas, footpaths, golf courses and grassed
areas where erosion caused by foot traffic may be
a problem.
The matting does not require expensive, specialist
installation and maintains the 'green field' look
of a grassed area by allowing grass to grow through
it. As the grass grows, it can simply be cut with
a conventional mower over the matting.
Unimat has been tested by the CST (Centre of Sports
Technology), and has achieved a critical fall height
of up to 2.8 metres. This means that Unimat can
be supplied as a safer surface for public play areas,
conforming to the relevant European safety standards.
In September of 2003, AS&A provided
their Unimat surfacing to the BBC Ground Force team,
who used it for their Ilford Garden Project. It
was used to provide a footpath suitable for wheelchair
users, and was considered to be very effective.
